Where I throw out my thoughts, impressions and the occasional half-formed opinion. Go ahead and dig through the mess, salvage what you can.
I think this will mostly focus on pop culture: reviews, thought pieces, possibly some deeper analyses. But I’ll probably play fast and loose with structure.
Some broad idea categories that will probably show up:
-Creative writing: it’s craft across fiction, film, TV and videogames. Possibly some comics. I’ve been leaning away from fine literature and into horror and sci-fi pretty hard the past few years, so it’ll get spooky with, like… robots? (Actually I like sci-fi because it’s inherently optimistic—that might be the subject of a later post.)
-Music reviews, particularly metal bands (because rage), emo and goth (because I’m a sad boy) and house (because I’m also a happy boy). Maybe some indie rock and shoegaze and other EDM genres, maybe even country (actual country, not the alt-right propaganda shit on the radio).
-Film reviews, big emphasis on horror.
-Videogames, especially story-driven games that focus on the game as a work of art (like Night in the Woods and What Remains of Edith Finch, both of which I’m planning essays about).
-Also I’m a fuckin’ geek for science, so any time I can figure out something to say about quantum mechanics, cosmology and astronomy and the search for extraterrestrial life (because Tom DeLonge was right), biology or psychology, I’ll toss it on here.
This could all amount to just a couple of posts before going dark, a short-lived trash heap with just a couple bits thrown in. Or it could wind up an ongoing thing, piles on piles of rusty thoughts and cast-out reviews, waiting to be recycled and repurposed into barn siding or a latrine stall.
So, how long will this go on for? Who knows.
The point? I don’t think there is one.
But if there is, it’s part of an effort to exist a bit more in the world. These have been some rocky, (self-)isolating years, and it’d be interesting to spit out into the void and see what spits back. Kinda like just existing outside of my study more. And writing about stuff that already exists is a cool change of pace from writing about all the demented shit I make up. Also it’s a different way for me to talk about my interests. Also also because publishing moves too slow to keep up with everything I want to write, and this is a little quicker and more direct way to get that stuff out there.
So, step into the junkyard, rummage around for the shiny bits, and maybe even give a chance to the rusty ones. Just make sure you’re up to date on your tetanus shot.
